HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines on a person (infant, child and adult) who is unresponsive and not breathing until the arrival of professional assistance.

HealthEd Vic delivers this course using a combination of online pre-course study plus 2 hours of practical training

All enrolled students must complete the online 30 question multiple choice CPR work book and print out their pre course completion certificate and bring it to the class. 

The 2 hour course covers the following:

  • DRSABCD Action Plan

  • Managing the unconscious casualty

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide emergency care, including CPR to an ill and/or injured person, to coordinate first aid until the arrival of professional assistance and how to effectively communicate and document the incident. This course is delivered using blended learning, includes a range of theoretical and practical tasks and involves the use of simulated scenarios which reflect real life situations occurring in the community and workplace settings. 

HealthEd Vic delivers this course using a combination of online pre-course study plus a full day practical training

All enrolled students must complete the online multiple choice First Aid work book and print out their pre course completion certificate and bring it to the class. 

The full day course covers the following:

  • DRSABCD Action Plan

  • Managing the Unconscious Casualty

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Medical emergencies

  • Trauma emergencies

  • Bites and sting

Participants who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:

  • HLTAID003 Provide first aid.

Introduction to INFECTION PREVENTION & CONTROL

Effective infection prevention and control is central to providing high quality health care for patients and a safe working environment for those that work in healthcare settings. Ensuring all staff members have a thorough understanding of the principles infection prevention and control in the workplace is crucial to effective infection prevention and control.

This course has been designed to give learners a practical understanding about how to control and manage infection when providing health care and supporting services. 

This 1.5 hour course course has been designed to provide learners with:

  • The important basics of infection prevention and control

  • Effective work practices that minimise the risk of transmission of infection

  • Risk identification and understanding the differing types and levels of risk in different healthcare settings

  • The responsibilities of management/infection prevention and control coordinator

  • Resources and information available to compliance with legislation, regulations and standards relevant to infection control.

MANAGING Difficult Situations & Behaviours

In all workplaces staff are are likely to encounter difficult situations and behaviours, particularly staff working in healthcare because of their constant exposure to patients and their families.  Managing an episode of aggressive or disruptive behaviour can be stressful for all involved, the challenge is to minimise danger and at the same time, maximise the opportunity for a positive outcome. Educating staff to effectively respond to difficult situations and behaviours is critical to preventing escalation of these situations and to ensuring staff feel safe in the workplace.

This 2 hour course has been designed to provide learners with the knowledge to:

  • Recognise early signs of aggression or disruptive behaviour

  • Deal with difficult or challenging behaviour promptly, firmly and diplomatically

  • Use communication effectively to achieve the desired outcomes

  • Identify and select appropriate strategies to suit particular instances of difficult or challenging behaviour

  • Ensure planned responses to behaviours of concern maximise the availability of other appropriate staff and resource

Triage Training for non Clinical Staff

A triage system allows identification of patients who require priority access to the practitioner/treatment due to potentially serious/urgent presentations. From a risk management perspective, it is particularly important that the relevant nonclinical staff receive triage training in order to recognise medical emergencies and prioritise appointments for patients with urgent clinical needs.

This 1 hour course has been designed to provide learners with:

  • Understanding the purpose of a prepared set of questions to ask patients when assessing a patients need to be seen that day

  • When to consult with the practice nurse or GP to assess the degree of clinical urgency

  • Active listening skills and effective communication strategies when speaking to patients
